Klaus Groth School (KGS) is a ”Gymnasium” which was founded in 1888 and has presently about 770 students from grade 5 to 13 and about 70 teachers. The students leave the school with a university entrance qualification (Abitur)Klaus Groth Schule is a dynamic school which responds to the demands of the modern world. Active citizenship is part of KGS’s educational focus. Once they enroll at KGS the students are trained and stimulated to be open and respectful and in this context they are encouraged to stand up for their rights and voice them in an appropriate manner. As KGS has a rather diverse student body with different cultural, ethical and religious backgrounds as well as physical abilities the school has taken up the cause to give all school members the same opportunity to participate and to give each the chance to achieve their academic and personal best without losing track of what is good for the whole community. However, in a world that goes far beyond the class room experience, students – and teachers - need to open their minds a lot further. That is why one of the school’s central aims is to expand relations and cooperation with national and international partners. These contacts open up the chances for students and teachers to get new insights they perhaps would not get otherwise. In addition, teachers have a great opportunity to assess effective teaching methods and to get ideas on how to create an inspiring learning environment and on how to acquire life-long skills that prepare students for the challenges of the future. Thus KGS has been continuously building up relations. The school has regular and very active student exchanges with its partner school in the UK. Furthermore, there are close ties to Italy, Spain, Israel, Romania and Estonia.With regard to the subjects, KGS focuses on the natural and computer sciences, maths and technology. Additionally a range of foreign languages are part of the school curriculum. Moreover, bilingual (English/German) courses in Geography, Biology, History and Political Studies are offered. The school is located in the heart of the state of Schleswig-Holstein in the city of Neumuenster. It is only about 40 km to the Baltic Sea, 90 km to the Northern Sea and about 70 km to the vibrant city of Hamburg.
