The technical college and upper vocational school of Coburg (i.e. Regiomontanus school) is situated in the culturally and scenically charming city of Coburg.Coburg, rather a small city with approx. 42,000 inhabitants, was for a long time home of the dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and centre of the European Higher Nobility and has stayed a delightful mixture between Franconian and Thuringian culture and style.Right between the cities of Erfurt and Nuremberg, Bayreuth and Wuerzburg, Coburg as a city not only offers high attractivity, it is also point of origin for many attractive trips and sightseeing tours.Regiomontanus school, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary of foundation in 2020, offers students four different fields to pick from.The technical field mainly deals with questions of science and technical problems and finally leads students to engineering branches of study at the advanced technical college. Occupational training in that field is done in shops at the school itself. The social field gives students the abilities to deal with problems in social pedagogy, education science and psychology and builds the basics for further studies in those areas. The students do one occupational training in nursery schools or special institutions for disabled people, and another one in hospitals or homes for the elderly.The field ‘economy, administration and judicature’ mainly deals with managerial topics out of industry, trade, public administration and jurisdiction. Students are led towards studies of economics. Occupational training is done in privately led factories, town or city administration or in court.The health and care branch aims to prepare pupils for related studies at universities or technical colleges (Fachhochschulen). But it also offers plenty of future perspectives in a variety of other fields than university education: health insurances, integrative health promotion in various companies, health management or bioanalytics , to name just a few. Additionally, pupils can acquire the general qualification for university entrance (Allgemeine Hochschulreife) by successfully attending the 13th grade.At the moment 40 teachers are employed, teaching about 600 students in those four branches. Students are mainly between 17 and 22 years old, but some might be considerably older especially when going to upper vocational school.
