Our school, Städtisches Gymnasium Bayreuther Straße Wuppertal, Germany, has always given great importance to international contacts with schools in other parts of the world. We are currently looking for a contact with the prospect of a regular student exchange from 2020/21 on. We would like to continue offering our students the unique possibility to experience life and culture primarily in an English-speaking country such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, the Republic of Ireland, Namibia or South Africa, but also to other countries such as Italy and Sweden to develop long-lasting friendships. 1050 students from grades 5 to 12 (age 10 to 18) attend our school with the prospect of achieving their A-levels (Abitur). As foreign languages we teach English, French and Latin. Students can choose between a variety of extracurricular activities, such as drama, band, choir, chess, dance, golf and tennis. The school is situated in Wuppertal, a charming city of 350.000 inhabitants, close to Cologne and Düsseldorf and also to the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan area. Wuppertal is famous for its "Schwebebahn" suspension railway and was traditionally an important home for textile and chemical companies. Today Bayer, Vorwerk, Erfurt, and Axalta are among the more important local employers. The city was also the birthplace of the philosopher Friedrich Engels, the film director Tom Tykwer, and the women's rights activist Alice Schwarzer. It was also the home of the choreographer Pina Bausch.The reciprocal exchange visit can last from one week up to six weeks. Both the German students and their partners should attend lessons and take part in everyday school life in order to gain experience of the different culture and to improve their language skills.
