We are a comprehensive school with approx.1200 students of mixed ability between the ages of 11 and 19. The school, which is run by the Protestant church, is situated in a less-favoured former mining area of Germany with a lot of unemployment and many of our students come from low income and/or migrant families. There is also a large student body with an average background because the school, founded in 1998, has a quite good reputation, an award-winning building and afternoon classes which is not standard in Germany. We also include children with disabilities and learning disorders, thus it is our foremost goal to create a safe haven, structure and guidance for our students. We promote tolerance and respect and run several projects and extra-curriculars on sustainability and climate protection. We also encourage our students to play sports, learn an instrument (which they can do at school) and be creative in the field of Arts. We also teach foreign languages from an early age on, English, French and Spanish
