Our 8-year school or Gymnasium (grade 5 to 12) is located in the beautiful Rhine valley at the foot of the Black Forest in the Southwestern corner of Germany. We’re located close to the French border and only about 150 km from Switzerland, roughly halfway between Heidelberg in the North and Freiburg in the South. With about 1000 students and 100 teachers we are one of the larger schools in the region. Our students start with either English or French in grade 5 and take the other language one year later if they don’t choose Latin instead. As only one of five schools in our region, they have the option to start with a focus on Arts right from the start. After grade 7 they choose a focus either on a third language (usually Spanish) or on science and technology. Our school is unique by offering our “Acherner Modell” in which every student chooses one or two extracurricular activities every year, ranging from sports (e.g. gymnastics, circus, soccer, volleyball, basketball, yoga or American sports), courses focusing on language (e.g. school newspaper, Chinese or debating), Arts (e.g. calligraphy, theater, Big Band, choir or photography), technology (e.g. computer programming, computer networks), social sciences(e.g. world conflicts), natural sciences (e.g. winery, environment) or remedial courses in Math and languages. If you are looking for a reliable partner across the pond for a steady student exchange, don’t hesitate to contact us. Our students (and English faculty) are eager to reestablish our school’s missing link to the North American continent. Please contact our current coordinator: firstname.lastname@example.org

Wünsche hinsichtlich Partnerschule: We are looking to (re)establish an annual exchange with an American or Canadian high school starting in 2022 (biannual arrangements are also an option). Our past exchange with schools in North Carolina unfortunately ended just before the pandemic struck. Spanning 26 years, it had been one of the longest running ever within the GAPP program. In the past our groups consisted of 16-20 students in grade 10 (ages 15-16) with lots of others on a waiting list. Ideally there would be “partner students” at the other school with whom they would stay coming to the US/Canada and hosting them on the return visit to Germany to encourage meaningful and long-lasting relationships. We would love to start as soon as the fall of 2022 (visiting the US/Canada in fall (October/November), and the return visit to Germany in early summer). We are open on topics for projects and cooperation (sports and history have always been successful and interesting). Since we are switching the accompanying teachers for our exchanges, these topics may vary each year. Activities could be ranging from penpal arrangements (e.g. pre-exchange) to presentations, workshops or field trips on agreed upon topics during the exchange. While we would also consider virtual partnerships, yet our preference has always been the "real" exchange and travel abroad.
